The Amsterdam Tattoo Museum was a museum in Amsterdam dedicated to tattoos. It was an initiative of the well-known Amsterdam tattoo artist Henk Schiffmacher. The museum opened its doors on November 5, 2011 at Plantage Middenlaan 62.
As a result of disagreements between the owners and Schiffmacher, the museum closed within a year and a half, on April 1, 2013. However, Schiffmacher has continued to collect tattoos and other artifacts related to tattooing, and he hopes to one day reopen the museum in a new location.
In the meantime, Schiffmacher’s collection is available to view by appointment only. The collection includes a wide variety of tattoos, from traditional Japanese tattoos to modern American tattoos. There are also many other artifacts related to tattooing, such as tattoo machines, tattoo flash, and tattoo books.
